idea of doing sth与idea to do sth的用法探讨

问题描述
在不少书上看到，idea 后面不能接不定式（即不说 idea to do sth），而要用 idea of doing sth。这样的例句子也随处可查。如：
I really like the idea of helping people. 我非常赞同帮助他人的提议。
He relished the idea of getting some cash. 他盼望得到一些现金。
She had the idea of advertising on the Internet. 她想到要在互联网上做广告。
He kept turning the idea of resigning over in his mind. 他心里来回掂量着辞职的事。
She hated hospitals and didn’t like the idea of having an operation. 她讨厌医院，也不想做手术。
我记得曾经在哪本高中英语教材上见到过 idea to do sth，但不记得是哪个地方了？
我有两个问题：

▲原则上说，人们会说 the idea of doing sth，一般不说 the idea to do sth。如：
The idea of going to his rescue amused her. 她一想到要去解救他就觉得想笑。
The idea of eating raw shellfish nauseates me. 我一想到吃生贝就恶心。
The idea of retiring early really appeals to me. 提前退休这个想法，我很感兴趣。
The very idea of sniffing glue is repellent to me. 我一想到吸胶毒就感到恶心。
The idea of accepting a bribe was repugnant to me. 我一想到受贿这种事就非常反感。
▲但偶尔也可见到 the idea to do sth 的用法。如：
Of course Morris hated my idea to move his department upstairs. 莫里斯当然讨厌我把他的部门搬到楼上的计划。（《剑桥国际英语词典》）
▲你说曾在哪本高中英语教材上见到过 idea to do sth，我查了一下，真查到了，是人教必修一的Unit 2：
It was my sister who first had the idea to cycle along the entire Mekong River from where it begins to where it ends. 首先想到要沿湄公河从源头到终点骑车旅行的是我的姐姐。

可以说：It is a good idea to do sth. 和 It was sb.'s idea to do sth.
I know it was a bad idea to leave him on his own. 我知道把他单独留下不是个好主意。（《朗文高级英语应试词典》p1161）
这里的 it 是形式主语，to do sth 是真正主语。
