下文是《新外研社八年级下册Module 4 Unit 2》中activity 2的课文：

Healthy living

I was not feeling very well so the doctor checked my heart and said I needed more exercise. I have never been very active, and I do not like sports.I have always wanted a pet,so my parents gave me a dog for my birthday.Now I get exercise by takeing him for a walk every day.I have had him for three months now and I feel really healthy.

练习题里就有一题：In the last twenty years,our city has improved a lot.这里是用现在完成时，可是课本上的那句为什么不用现在完成时而用一般过去时？我还是有点儿搞不清，能说一下吗？
这句话“ Since then,it has become part of my life.”我最不明白了，become不是短暂性动词吗？为什么这个时候还可以与since then连用？为什么不是用“Since then,it has been part of my life.”？

请问“I was not feeling very well”为什么要用过去进行时？

如果用过去时felt（did not feel)，就是说不舒服的感觉现在已经消失了，而且只是简单说“感觉不舒服”这个意思。结合句意，作者说自己在过去一段时间里一直感觉不舒服，所以才去找医生。用was feeling指不舒服的感觉一直延续到看医生。
请问这个蓝色的“for”在那里是什么意思？

my parents gave me a dog for my birthday，这里的for就是“作为”的意思。
有in excellent condition那么有没有out of excellent condition？

没有吧，out of condition是“身体健康状况不好”，而excellent是“极好的”的意思，两者放在一起，不是很矛盾吗？此外，我想起了excell in这个固定搭配，excel是excellent的动词形式。
请问这句话为什么不用现在完成时？

我觉得这里要看句意和动词的性质。练习题里的意思是“在最后的20年里，我们的城市已经改善了很多”，说明改善是已经一段时间完成的。当然，用过去时的话就简单陈述了一个状况而已。
这句话“ Since then,it has become part of my life.”我最不明白了，become不是短暂性动词吗？为什么这个时候还可以与since then连用？为什么不是用“Since then,it has been part of my life.”？

我感觉是两者是一样的。“已经成为”，汉语也这么说吧？！
