think of A as B这个结构中,A是宾语,B是宾语补足语。现在分词短语作宾补。不是动名词。

与刘老师商榷:

think of A as B. 这一类的句型,一般认为A是宾语,B是宾语补足语,因为A与B之间存在逻辑上的主谓关系。这是简略的或粗略的分析法。严格意义上讲,as引导的是一个方式状语从句,该从句常常省略成分,省略到只剩下一个名词或形容词,貌似介词。但也可以不省略,这时我们就看到as后接一个从句了。

as不可以看作是介词,否则怎么解释后接形容词?

as后面的V-ing不可能是动名词,只能是现在分词。因为,动名词起名词的作用,相当于名词。名词用在as后,逻辑上有A=B的关系。如He treats me as a guest. me=guest.

但V-ing位于as后面时,与A是主谓关系,而不是A=B的关系。这足以证明V-ing是现在分词而不是动名词,也同时证明as不是介词,而是引导方式状语从句的关联词(关系代词或关系副词)。

【答】我跟曹老师的看法略有不同。这里,as 应该是介词,后面跟的applying 是动名词。

英语中,这样的表达或结构跟多,比较典型的是regard...as...。在regard sb. as ...结构中,as 用作介词,意为“当作;作为;是”。一般语法书都把as 介词短语看作宾语补足语。as 后除了接名词代词外,还可接形容词和动名词,有的还可以接as 从句。

最常见的这类表达是“观点类”用法。该类动词表示“认为,认可,承认,确认,当作,看作,视为,理解为”等含义。记住这些固定表达,对学好英语更重要。为了理解方便,我们用him 作宾语,列举如下:

除了把as 介词短语看作宾语补足语外,还有一种观点,就是把as 介词短语看作方式状语。例如:

I treat him as a guest of mine. 我把他当作客人。

这句话实际上是说:“我以客人的方式对待他”。那么,as短语的作用就是“以何种方式看待某人,对待某人等”,就是说,as 短语是针对谓语动词treat 而言的,并非针对宾语而言,所以看作方式状语比宾补更好。这里的as 意为“以...身份,作为...方式”。
