There was a pile of books on the table.
On the table was a pile of books and a scatter of papers.
A pile of presents were heaped under the Christmas tree.
There was a pile of clean laundry on her bed.
A pile of ironing is hardly inspiring.
Heaped up in one corner was a pile of junk.
There was a (neat) pile of books on the desk.
On the table beside an empty plate was a pile of books.
There's a pile of newspapers in the corner have you looked underneath?
(2)a pile of +名词复数,作主语,
There is a large pile of books in the room.
A large pile of books are seen in the room.
